Windows Longhorn, also known as Windows Vista, was a major release of Microsoft Windows in the mid-2000s. It was released to manufacturing on November 8, 2006, and generally became available in January 2007. Longhorn was intended to be a major update to Windows, with a new user interface, improved security features, and better performance. However, the development of Longhorn was troubled, and it ended up being delayed multiple times. Ultimately, Microsoft decided to scale back some of the more ambitious features and released the product as Windows Vista.
